Notifications
Follow activity, mentions, and requests across your workspaces.
Choose the Notifications bell in the sidebar or mobile header to check updates without leaving your page. The panel shows your latest 15 entries in Recent, or unresolved requests in Needs You. On mobile it opens as a drawer. Its badge counts unread notifications across all your workspaces.
Open an item, mark it read or unread, or mark all notifications read directly from the panel. Opening the panel alone doesn't mark anything read. Choose View All Notifications for your full history and preferences. Notifications also appear in your account menu.
New notifications update the badge while you're anywhere on the site. The tab you're using shows a toast with a link to the item. Read, unread, and discussion mute changes sync across your open tabs. Receiving a toast does not mark an item as read.
Rapid arrivals are combined into one toast, with at most one notification toast every five seconds. A summary highlights mentions and requests that need you; choose View Notifications to see every update. If you switch tabs before a toast appears, those updates remain in your feed without replaying later.
If your connection drops or your device sleeps, Guest Machines refreshes your notifications when you reconnect. Older items stay in the notification center without appearing again as new toasts.
Chat updates also reach you on other pages. A new reply, a failed or paused run, or a request for input or approval can show a toast with a link to the work. You won't get an extra toast for the chat you're already viewing.
Find what needs your attention
- All shows your recent notifications.
- Unread shows items you haven't read.
- Needs You shows unresolved requests, including ones you've already read.
- Mentions shows comments that mention your username.
Choose a notification's title to open its source. Guest Machines switches to the relevant workspace when needed and opens the linked comment or request. Shared chat discussions can be opened without switching workspaces.
Mark as Read, Mark as Unread, and Mark All as Read manage your reading status. Reading a notification does not resolve its request. A request leaves Needs You when the underlying action is completed or no longer applies.
Ordinary comments on the same knowledge file or shared chat appear as one expandable entry, with a comment count and an unread count. Expand it to open or mark individual comments read, and choose Load Earlier Comments for older updates. Expanding alone doesn't mark anything read. Mentions, direct replies and requests stay separate so they're easy to find. Your badge counts individual unread notifications, not groups.
Choose how you're notified
Open Preferences in Notifications, or go to Profile → Notification preferences. Changes save automatically and sync across your open tabs and devices.
- Choose Toasts separately for mentions and replies, comments, agent activity, workspace and account updates, and budgets and alerts. Toasts are pop-up messages while you're using the website.
- Choose Email for agent activity, workspace and account updates, and budgets and alerts. Comments and mentions are currently Not emailed.
- Budget and alert emails also require an email channel on that budget or alert.
Turning off alerts keeps notifications and unread badges in the app. Requests stay in Needs You until resolved. Muted discussions stay muted. Your existing email opt-out is preserved, and sign-in emails are always sent. Desktop notifications keep their separate browser permission and chat setting.
Discussion notifications and mentions
You receive notifications for comments on your shared chats and knowledge files, replies to your shared-chat comments, and mentions. File owners also receive notifications for agent comments. Your own comments don't notify you. If you're both the owner and mentioned, or both replied to and mentioned, you receive one notification for that comment.
Type @ in a human comment to choose a person. Knowledge-file suggestions include people who already have access; shared-chat suggestions include the owner and people participating in that discussion. Mentions never grant access. Text inside quotes or code, snapshots, and agent-generated content does not create mention notifications.
Choose Mute Discussion beside a discussion to stop its future notifications, including mentions. Choose Unmute Discussion to receive future activity again. Muting does not remove notifications you already received.
How long notifications stay
Read activity notifications are removed after 14 days. Unread activity is removed after 90 days. Unresolved requests are kept even if you've read them; their retention starts when they resolve. Reading a resolved notification later starts its 14-day read period then.
Notifications disappear when their source is deleted, a shared-chat link is revoked, or you lose access. Removing a notification does not delete the source. Email delivery follows your notification preferences.
